Passage: John 4:1-26

Preacher: Bill Massey

Series: Meetings with Jesus

Category: Sunday Morning

Detail:

Sermon Intro: The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overpower it! This story gives hope to everyone who loves someone who seems beyond the reach of God’s grace. Never give up hope in Jesus’s power to save! John has intentionally placed this story following Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus so that we may contrast the two. Nicodemus is Jewish, well-educated, religious, moral, and male. This woman is Samaritan, probably illiterate, religiously compromised, immoral, and female. Nicodemus is also named whereas the woman is not. How shocking then, from the Jewish perspective, that the unnamed woman comes to believe in Jesus as Messiah but Nicodemus does not!
